Disney Height Requirements

Safety First!

Height Requirements are strictly enforced and precisely calculated.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Frontierland, Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

Height restrictions can be a bummer for a lot of reasons. They are inconvenient, they make for some sad littles, and they split up the travel party. Despite these inconveniences, height requirements are extremely important, and they are STRICTLY enforced at all Disney parks and properties.

Remember, these rides are full of danger when not operated properly. We rely on the Imagineers to create these rides properly, and we rely on the cast members to operate them properly. Therefore, the Imagineers and cast members expect us, the guests, to follow the rules for safety, and one of these safety precautions is height requirements.

Disney puts the height bar right in front of the queue, so they save you time from having to get your hopes up waiting in line on the ride. This is something they do to keep us physically safe and also emotionally safe. They post these height requirements ahead of time so you can plan accordingly. We can always count on Disney to do its best to enhance member experience, and this is no different.

Height Requirements only matter when you have littles with you that may or may not be the right height for an attraction, but when they matter, they REALLY matter. Below is a Quick Reference Guide to a full list of all Disney parks and the height requirement for each one. The rides listed below have height requirements. If you do not see it listed, there are no height restrictions.

Disney puts all sorts of markers in the ride queues to help with visual reference to height. It is the responsibility of all cast members to check people’s heights, so this is a helpful tool. It can be found in heights of handrails, decor, statues, and other Intellectual Property!

Helpful Tip!

If your child has a tough time trying to hit their head on the height bar because they are used to ducking when something is in line with their head (like we all are), try having them stand under the bar and raise their arms in the air. This will help them stand up straighter and show a true height.

Know Before you Go

Know the height requirements before you go so you do not set your child up for failure when they stand at the height bar. If they are under the height requirement, save some tears and do the rider switch.
